The Friends Fountain in NYC: Why You Still Can't Find It

While visiting New York City’s famous Central Park, you might be tempted to look for the iconic fountain seen in the opening credits of Friends. You could have even gone seeking for it if you've visited NYC before. Not yet found it? Here is why.

Since the show takes place in New York City, the majority of people automatically believe that the fountain is there as well. In fact, people frequently confuse it for Central Park's Cherry Hill fountain.

Although though they look alike on the surface, this fountain is about 3,000 miles away from the one you are looking for.

Actually, the fountain that was used to film the Friends credit scene is in California, on the back lot of the Warner Bros. studio.

There has never been a Friends fountain in New York City. That was at the studio more than twenty five years ago, and hasn't left. Most Friends fans were unaware of this information for the entire time.

Cherry Hill Fountain

Don't be too hard on yourself if you and your friends took a photo in front of the Cherry Hill fountain in Central Park and posted it online with the message, "I'll be there for you".

You can find dozens of such instances of pictures taken at this and other nearby fountains with captions that are similar if you search on Facebook and Instagram. Some people who were really certain they had found the Friends fountain were utterly mistaken. You'll probably find yourself giggling when you compare their images side by side and discover that the fountains in each site are radically different.

Once your disappointment has subsided, don't lose heart—Central Park and the surrounding area are filled with interesting things to see and do. Although the Cherry Hill fountain is not the Friends fountain, it is nonetheless a stunning and famous site that is well worth seeing and taking pictures of.
